Autonomous Examination Cell


Seshasayee Institute of Technology (SIT) is a prominent polytechnic institution located in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India. Established in 1952, it holds the distinction of being the first grant-in-aid polytechnic in the state post-independence. The institute was founded by the visionary industrialist (Late) Thiru. V. Seshasayee, who recognized the need for skilled engineers and technicians to drive industrialization in the country.SIT offers a range of diploma courses in engineering, all approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The institute operates under an autonomous status, allowing it to design its curriculum and conduct examinations independently, thereby maintaining high academic standards and relevance to industry needs.


In order to carry out the autonomous activities of the institution, a full-fledged Autonomous Examination Cell functions in the institution with the Principal as the Chairman of the Autonomous Examination Cell. This cell is administered by the Controller of Examinations, Deputy Controller of Examinations, and Assistant Controller of Examinations with Junior Assistants.


The Autonomous Examination Cell is responsible for framing the syllabus and carrying out the continuous learning and assessment process of Examinations. As an NBA Accredited Institution, all the programmes follow Outcome Based Education (OBE) in Teaching Learning Process and Assessment. Hence, this cell maintains the utmost quality and standards in all the processes with utmost confidentiality.

Functions of Autonomous Examination Cell


  • Frame the Rules and Regulations of the Autonomous system as per DoTE guidelines
  • Update and amend the Rules and Regulations of the Autonomous system as per DoTE guidelines
  • Frame the Curricula and Syllabi of all the diploma programmes
  • Conduct of Academic Board meeting for obtaining approval in Academic matters
  • Prepare the Tentative Academic Calendar for the respective Academic year
  • Monitor the regular Academic activities of all the programmes
  • Conduct of Autonomous Theory and Practical examinations as per DoTE norms
  • Conduct of Autonomous Central Valuation and Tabulation
  • Conduct of Awards Committee meeting for declaring and publishing the results of Autonomous Examination results.
  • Conduct of Revaluation
  • Issue the diploma certificates, issued by the State Board of Technical Education Chennai
  • Issue of various certificates like duplicate mark sheet, consolidated mark sheet, Genuineness of certificates, Transcripts, Medium of instruction/Bonafide certificates etc.
